How does therapy and coaching differ?
I offer both psychological therapy and life coaching. While they may appear similar, they are distinct in their focus and purpose.
Therapy
Therapy provides a confidential, reflective space to explore emotional difficulties, mental health concerns, and patterns that may be affecting your wellbeing. As a Clinical Psychologist, I use evidence-based approaches to support deeper understanding, processing, and meaningful psychological change.
Therapy may be helpful if you are:
Experiencing anxiety, low mood, or emotional distress
Struggling with relationships or past experiences
Feeling stuck in unhelpful patterns
Noticing how earlier patterns or experiences may be shaping how you think, feel, or relate to others in the present
Seeking deeper emotional understanding and support
Coaching
Coaching is a forward-focused, structured process designed to support personal growth and development. It focuses on goals and practical change, helping you move towards where you want to be, with less of a focus on the impact of past experiences on current difficulties.
Coaching may be helpful if you are:
Looking to improve confidence or direction
Navigating life or career transitions
Wanting to set and achieve specific goals
Seeking support with motivation, habits, or decision-making
Choosing the right approach
If you’re unsure which option is right for you, we can discuss this together. Where there are significant mental health concerns, therapy may be the more appropriate option.
⚠️ Important
Coaching is not a substitute for therapy and does not involve the assessment or treatment of mental health conditions.
